Broadband in Cantley


The technology behind internet connectivity has developed at great speed. Just ten years ago in Cantley we were using dial up modems with very slow speeds. Now we have broadband which is creaking under the strain of our ever increasing bandwidth demands. There are ongoing plans to modernise the network throughout the country. For our needs in Cantley much of our focus is on what updates are made to the local exchange in Freethorpe because it is that which governs our internet experience here. This page is a repository of information regarding the technology and the changes being proposed. Until recently there was a form on this page to put that information in to. Unfortunately I've received quite a few results that are clearly false. Kevin emailed to explain that he's come across a company promising to deliver fast broadband using a new technology. He said so far they've only covered the area around Marsham but they encourage people to register in order to roll the service out in other areas. On 31/05/2012 the exchange at Freethorpe, which serves Cantley, is due to receive a 21CN (21st Century) upgrade. On it's own this is unlikely to increase broadband speed but it does move us nearer to being able to order ADSL2+ which will deliver a faster connection. There is more detail via the links below.
