Happy New Year from Myrtle Beach
Happy New Year and Greetings & Salutations from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Like many others and as a curious librarian by trade, I came across your Cantley website rather serendipitously. What a pleasure to view pictures from Cantley and learn about the local going ons.
I married into the Cantley family and some of my husband's previous genealogical forays have found some interesting information tracing his family back to Great Britain. He spent some time working in Blackpool, Pleasure Beach and Manchester in 2003. I just wanted to let you know that I have enjoyed browsing the photos and related posts on your website and appreciate the content you have so graciously shared. I have yet to make it overseas but my husband and I both hope to be able to visit together in the near future. My husband was absolutely delighted to see pictures of the Cantley Church.
Warm regards

East Anglian Real Property history sought
Paul,
Just visited the Cantley website looking for Cantley history information. Our village history group is currently looking at the history of farming in our village (Southrepps). Between the wars the East Anglian Real Property Company owned and farmed much of the land in and around Southrepps. They also owned numerous farms in your part of the county and employed many many people. We already have information of from local residents who worked for or had relations who worked on the farms. I have also gleaned useful information from the BSC website.
The headquarters of the Dutch owned group was in Cantley until the 1980's and the history of the company is intimately linked to that of the Sugar Beet Factory. Do you know of anyone living in your area who has a detailed knowledge of the story of The Real Property Company ? Are there any relatives of the owning family still living in your area?
We would be happy to pass on the results of our researches into the EARPC.
Regards
Colin Needham (Southrepps Society Farming Memories Project)

Factory Expansion
Why don't these people who do not live on the route to the factory mind their own business and consider the unemployed in the village who need work. These residents have not experienced life in a working village , they want a retirement home. Not the case in cantley they must have seen the silos when they bought their properties did they think they were suplied by magic !!!!!!!

Ancestor Information Sought
Hi Paul,
I wonder if anyone has any information on some of my ancestors from Cantley?
There are a number of my ancestors buried in the churchyard but to my knowledge only one headstone ( William + Fanny Brinded) and in the church an Ernest Brinded on the WW1 memorial.
These are both descendant's of Jeremiah sometimes known as Brindy or Brinded or Shreeve.
We have a considerable amount of information on the Brinded family going back to the late 1700s and it would be great to know if Jeremiah still has other living descendant's in the area.
Thanks
Graeme Brinded (Potter Heigham)
If anyone can help, please email graeme143.brinded@btinternet.com or phone 01692 670818.
Family History in Cantley, Limpenhoe & Halvergate
I congratulate you on your Cantley site. I have an interest as I am tracing my family history and I have many relatives from Cantley, Limpenhoe and Halvergate.
I attach a photo taken in Limpenhoe about 1899. It shows my grandfather Jeuel Jabez Gray on the left, leaning on what was supposedly the largest donkey in Norfolk. On the seat is John William Gray and Violet Jane Gray, Jeuel's siblings, and on the right are his elder brothers Frederick Barnes Gray and Samuel Henry Gray.
The older couple are their parents, my great-grandparents John and Ruth Gray, nee Barnes. John was born in Hardley and Ruth in Langham in North Norfolk. They married in Langham but spent the rest of their lives in Limpenhoe and have a memorial stone in the St Botolph's churchyard where they are buried.
Please feel free to put this on your site if it is of use - and if anyone can recognise exactly where the photo was taken I'd love to hear from them.
Best Wishes
Helen Evans
Cantley Family History
I just recieved an ad from "The Cantley Family Library", of which I had no knowledge of. I feel I am way behind the times. Let me introduce myself, my name is Roger P. Cantley son of Homer H. Cantley. I was born in columbus Ohio, however both my father and grandfather were born in Brunland, W.VA. There is a small wood church there and right behind it is a short road that goes up the mountain to a small cemetary where my grandparent and several others are buried. I know very little family history and would love to know more. A geneolgy research firm in Australia said they traced us to the 1800,s in Cantley, England. They also said there might be a branch in Scotland.

The Cantley Name
Dear Paul,
My name is Gordon L. Cantley from Cleveland Ohio, U.S.A. Did you know there is a Cantley cemetary in a small town called Rock Creek?, located in rural West Virginia, this cemetary has Cantleys buried there from the past to the present. Some of the headstones are so old, you can barely make out the names or dates. Some of the oldest I can make out go as far back as to the late 1700's. One of the headstones display the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, and so on. The next time i go to visit, I would be happy to take some photos.

Cantley History
Hi Paul,
I was interested in the Cantley history site as my ancestors were in Cantley and surrounding villages over 4 centuries ago, before leaving in about 1880. I live at Blofield and have traced my Nicholls family tree back to c1550 in Cantley. I would be interested to know if any records are available detailing the farms and dwellings in Cantley around the 1800 era.
As I have indicated I have a Family Tree going back to c1550 if this is of interest to the Cantley History.

Mike Nicholls
Cantley
Hi Paul
My great great grandfather was born in Cantley on the 30th January 1812. He was the son of Richard Curtis, born in Hassingham c1775, and Harriott England. She was also born in Cantley on the 17th December 1811. They were married in Cantley church on the 14th June 1831. According to Genuki Richard Curtis was a farmer in Cantley in 1845. I believe he was a marshman.
I am told there is quite a connection between the England family and Cantley church. I did visit last year and did find one ot two gravestones but, unfortunately, the church was not open. Do you know anything about this connection.
Regards
Rosemary Hives (nee Curtis)
